One thing which seems to be a recurring theme in our Professional Practise lectures is the idea of sustainability of our artwork. I think this is something interesting to think about, especially as a new illustrator trying to break into the industry.

Sure as artists we all long to create something timeless that people will still be looking at in 100 years to come, but realistically, as illustrators, we may find that most of our work is produced only to be thrown out the following day with the newspapers. However, people are becoming increasingly eco-aware, and in the coming climate are only going to become more conscious. If our art is truly sustainable will that secure our future as designers? Realistically, do we have that choice? Is it only once we are established that we can start to be selective, or would being initially picky attract the right clientele in the first place? Am I making any sense to anyone other than myself here?  Hmm….I have much to think about, will let you know if I come up with any answers.
